Texas Supreme Court Candidate, Justice Linda Yanez
LULAC Law students welcome Texas Supreme Court Candidate, Justice Linda Yanez on THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2008 AT 12:00 P.M, tmsl Room tba.
Justice Yanez is currently serving on the 13th Court of appeals and is the first Latina to be appointed to an appellate court in the history of the state of Texas. She received her LLM from the University of Virginia Law School and her Bachelors of Arts from the University of Texas-Pan American. Most importantly she is a graduate of TMSL! Justice Yanez was a former Harvard Law School clinical instructor and has been a guest lecturer at the Law School at the University of Valencia in Valencia, Spain.
She served on and chaired numerous committees and boards, for the State Bar Associations in Texas, Illinois and Massachusetts and nationally the American Bar Association. Justice Yanez served as consulting attorney to the Mexican Consul Generals in Brownsville, Texas and Boston, Massachusetts and on the Legal Advisory Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. She served as Regional Counsel to the Mexican American Legal Defense Fund. We invite everyone to join us in welcoming this outstanding TMSL graduate.

- WHEN: 2:45 - 3:45, every other Wednesday
- WHERE: Jack Yates High School Cafeteria
- ABOUT PROGRAM: We will EMPOWER, EDUCATE, TUTOR, MENTOR, & INSPIRE 100 Latino students at Jack Yates High School. Together, we can instill some amazing values into these malleable teens who may lack direction, guidance, motivation, and role models. If we combine our strengths and harness the student’s enthusiasm, we can mold them into contributing members of society and assets to our country. Our goal is to ensure that these students do not fall through the cracks and to ensure that they attend college.
- TO BE A MENTOR: Please email LULACLawStudents@yahoo.com with your name, phone, email, year and feel free to tell us in what other capacities you could assist us. We need TMSL role models to help us as we have the ability to instill hope and leadership skills in the next generation.
In addition, the Jack Yates students from our program last year and their teachers organized and have invited us to attend a Latino Heritage Month Celebration on Monday October 1, 2007 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Yates Cafeteria. They will have student presentations, salsa lessons, tres leches cake, and more!
